Spiritual & Pastoral Care of People in Small Heath

Because we are a Church of England parish, we have a care for everyone living in the parish, whatever their faith or none. The majority of our parishioners are of the muslim faith; we seek respectfully to learn from people of other faiths in Small Heath, knowing that our fundamental purpose is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the lives we live and the words we speak. We are committed to the creation of a peaceable community context in which all may meet and listen to each other as the precondition for this purpose A time to be born and a time to die.... a time to weep and a time to laugh.....
Most of us have times in our lives when:

  • our children are born and we want to give thanks to God
  • our relationships need to be strengthened or made permanent before God
  • someone significant in our lives is very ill or dies
  • we want to celebrate or give thanks
  • we are low and need encouragement
  • we want to find meaning and purpose, to change and to know who we really are

The Christian faith has something to offer in all these circumstances - God loves, redeems, changes and leads and we are available as best we can to point the way and accompany all who seek.
The Church offers times of prayer and worship for many of these life situations and in particular: baptism and confirmation, marraige and funeral services.

Baptism
Baptism is the way in which people become Christians. We welcome adults or children to baptism. For children's baptism there will be preparation times for parents and Godparents to understand the Christian faith and the promises they will be making. There is of course no charge for baptism.
Children and Young People

We welcome children and young people especially to our worship on Sundays

Children to age 11 years
We have a Children's Circle, (lead by a team of co-ordinators), during the first part of the Sunday service each week. There is a family service on the first Sunday of each month where the young people attend and often play an active part in the service.

Marriage
Marriage is of fundamental importance for human beings and we wish to support and encourage people couples thinking about it. We welcome couples for marriage. If there has been a previous marriage we welcome couples who wish to make a new commitment before God to come for a service of prayer, dedication and blessing.
There are statutory fees if you wish to enquire about these and how we can help please contact us.
Funerals
Death poses all the important questions of life and it raises very many feelings and thoughts. We offer whatever help, comfort and support we can to bereaved people whether the family is churchgoing or not. Even for cremations a funeral service can take place first in church - and there are many good reasons for this to happen. The clergy will want to help with creating a service that is right for the person who has died and for their family.
There are statutory fees if you wish to enquire about these and how we can help please contact us.
